Whither the essence of leadership,

And whence does it come?

Charisma, say some, from birth,

Stratagem, say others, from force of will,

Courage, say I, a skill to be practiced,

A skill chosen, a responsibility to others,

To look after them,

A costly choice to sacrifice one’s interests,

Whose price is the willingness to rush into danger,

To protect those under your care.

To lead is to create,

With patient consistency,

The environment to succeed.

To lead is to be responsible,

For people and the environment,

So the people can generate results.
